Ice Cream Cake Recipe

Every birthday, my family enjoys a delicious ice cream cake. Since my first birthday that I can remember, I have devoured a scrumptious cake with chocolate fudge, Oreos, whipped cream, and ice cream that melts perfectly in my mouth. While it may sound like a typical sundae, I can assure you that this is a special dessert. Not only is it a family tradition, but a fan favorite. My friends have enjoyed it and complimented the chef everytime. If you are in for a simple, but mouthwatering dessert, keep reading!

You will need a short list of ingredients and materials. (12-16 Servings)

  1. 9 x 13 casserole dish or pie pan

  2. Half gallon of your favorite ice cream (vanilla is always a good choice)

  3. One standard pack of Oreos

  4. One 8oz tub of Cool Whip

  5. One jar of Smuckers hot fudge

  6. Optional: Chopped nuts of your choice

Steps

  1. Crush the Oreos. The easiest way to do this is by putting all of the Oreos into a gallon-sized plastic bag and using a rolling pin or the non-spiky side of a meat tenderizer to crush until the pieces are no bigger than ⅓ of the original size. Some people prefer a finer crust and some prefer larger chunks, so make it to your preference!

  2. Spread Oreos evenly over the bottom of the pan.

  3. Place Oreos in the pan in the freezer for an hour or more.

  4. Soften the ice cream. You can do this by leaving it on the counter until soft or by microwaving for 15-20-second intervals.

  5. Spread the ice cream over the Oreos evenly. An easy way to do this is to cut open the ice cream container and then slice ¾-inch-thick slices. Place slices throughout the pan and then spread out the ice cream.

  6. Freeze pan with ice cream layer in freezer for 1-2 hours minimum (This will depend on how melty the ice cream was to begin with, but the goal should be for the ice cream to be back to a normal consistency.)

  7. Spread hot fudge over ice cream layer. Scrape the fudge straight from the jar at room temperature. (Tip: be generous)

  8. Freeze for 30 minutes. (You can skip this step if you are in a hurry)

  9. Spread refrigerated Cool Whip evenly over hot fudge.

  10. Optional: Sprinkle chopped peanuts or nuts of choice over whipped cream layer.
